Silver Crescent Moon

The Moon, just before New Moon appears as a thin crescent in the Sunrise.

A photograph like this sometimes takes a lot of planning and found me overthinking the idea of getting a shot of the Moon in the glow of the sunrise. Early one summer morning just before sunrise I suddenly sat upright and grabbed my camera gear. The lens I had on my camera at that time was a vintage Mamiya SEKOR 50mm 1.8 lens.

I kept my eyes on the thin sliver of the crescent moon while the Sun slowly rose, and I mounted my camera on a tripod. I Scrambled to insert my remote shutter release and took a deep breath of the fresh morning air. I set the camera on shutter priority and set the lens to f8 and hoped for the best, I fired away…

The waning crescent Moon just before new Moon reaches a point where it is almost invisible but if you look carefully, you may catch a glimpse. This photograph reveals a thin crescent barely visible in the early morning glow of the Sun rise, yet it is there.

This is a unique shot and very pleased by the final edit. Image was taken with a Canon EOS 550D and a Vintage Mamiya SEKOR 50mm 1.8 Lens, Shutter priority and f8 aperture.

The next challenge would be the thin crescent of the New Moon, to be continued…

Always Look Up
